We’re in this together.
We know and feel that the current COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted our lives. We all miss the sweet laughter of our friends, the hugs and embrace of our officemates, and even the outdoor conversations with our classmates. In one way or another, everyone is experiencing a unique transformation.
Last week, I had the opportunity to talk with Joal, an SK leader from Catanduanes. His Council is one of the organizations that received support from PYDN. Because of this, he was able to implement his idea of a youth-led COVID-19 response. He shared how they helped their community. Joal did not give up and his story inspired us to do more. As a matter of fact, with your help, we are able to maximize a response investment amounting to Php 10,304,837.75, mobilized 565 local youth volunteers, and reached 136,086 Filipinos from Isabela to Maguindanao.
I’m happy to share with you that with the help of our partners we were able to release a guideline on how to engage adolescents and youth safely using the online platform. You can access and download it here. Also, with the help of UNICEF Philippines, we are able to launch PYDN’s newest project, the Young House Heroes Initiative.
Young House Heroes Initiative is a program for adolescents in the time of the COVID crisis. It utilizes a three-pronged approach that includes: (a)gathering of data on the impact of COVID-19 crisis to inform responsive programs, (b)co-creating accessible online and offline engagement platforms to promote holistic well-being, and (c) pilot testing a localized health service delivery system for young people.
We are now facing a redefining moment that will set the course for the years to come. One thing is for certain, we need you in this because we are #StrongerTogether.
Thank you very much and keep safe.
For the youth,
